My guess is that the shader compilation causes some extreme stutter that breaks the thread somehow. I am unable to reproduce the full hang on radeonsi.

Closing as the issue is caused by running an upscaled resolution. Upscaling doesn't work with all games and even with the ones that allow it, there are limitations.

Odd that it doesn't run, we usually don't have compatibility problems with idtech titles.

The glitching flames are rendered offscreen so it should likely be fixed at native res when using RCB/RDB and also WCB/WDB may help. It's been a very long time since...
