I gave a proof of concept of how this would work in a way that is not "stringify every element." Stringify is not used in the proof of concept.

I agree that jq can and should do in-place. The earlier problems were due to a poor original implementation.

This was fixed in https://github.com/miloyip/rapidjson/commit/fe550f38669fe0f488926c1ef0feb6c101f586d6.
This will require updating syn to 0.15. Your current version is from before `crate::` was introduced to Rust.
https://github.com/bincode-org/bincode/issues/293#issuecomment-614597852 is still in need of action as of current master.
The `Deserializer` documentation is still wrong as of current master.
