This latest seems good to me. What about swapping "...part..." with "...component..."? Component is longer, but it matches the mzML better, seems a bit more formal, and I think "has_part"...

I really don't have strong opinions here, but I'm thinking just having three terms is best, all positive, all negative, and a combination of the two. "Alternating" seemed fine, but...
