That works, but it might be easier to just take raw keycodes and let users look it up themselves (you'll need to for most bluetooth controllers anyways).

Yes, it's supposed to reboot automatically. If it didn't, the new version isn't installed. It's easier to reinstall than to try to figure out what version you're on.

If you are referring to the file size, KEPUBs are inherently larger due to the added koboSpans. If you are referring to the page count, KEPUBs use a different algorithm...
