It should not be used with sudo. What version of steam client are you using? (how did you install the steam client)
The app can't work with Flatpak/Snap version of steam as it needs access to running client process for IPC calls.
Latest appimage should work better, but still requires non flatpak/snap native version of steam client.

Looks like the fix is in latest client beta... At least judging by changelog.
Unfortunately, i don't know of any way to fix this. Enabling remote play together for unsupported titles is an undefined behavior for the client, so it may cause some glitches.

There are some interesting API changes in the latest Steam client update, I'm not sure if it'll be possible to fully restore RPW functionality.
