Before merging, this could use some more testing. I think @jkeck discovered some problem with it (which is why it's languished..), but I don't remember what it was.
This is addressed, in part, by #2308. More work may be needed to allow the person doing the export to select which parts to export.
Is this with a particular image? I'm not about to replicate it locally.
