Mountain pass/passage could work. There might be other synonyms but I'm not aware of them.

`crossing=uncontrolled` is more useful for `railway=crossing`. Also `crossing=marked` and `crossing=unmarked` provide more information compared to `crossing=uncontrolled`. In my opinion the use of `crossing=uncontrolled` on `highway=crossing` should be discouraged.
