No you should pick it up from usb, usb should be visible as tty (serial) interface, if you are familiar with Linux you should certainly know how to do :)...
you are in right spot, currently heishamon don't have any known wifi issues, are you on latest firmware version? Just in summer time here is quiet enough :)
