That seems promising and seems similar to other arguments used in functions like: https://pharmaverse.github.io/admiral/reference/derive_var_joined_exist_flag.html?q=join_vars#ref-usage Can you just double check that they are doing the same thing?? Any others needed?

I like the R6 idea but maybe that is for diffdf2? :) just seems like a big refactor, but maybe not!
