The reason for this is that currently there's no concept of spell damage at all in the system. Spells only perform success/failure rolls, damage is a manual thing.

A button that shows up to roll this when you are at 0 hit points I agree with, but the countdown automation may be a step too far.

We should also add an Effect that counts down to death to take advantage of the timed effects HUD work @bakbakbakbakbak did.
