It is beyond me how basically the most mature and developed C# UI solution can't adopt XAML 2009 which allows generics, an important language feature, for 15 years already...
Just for the record: usually people use Cubic or Influence autonormals in VXLSE, as those produce the best results.
 YVORY currently has the best display for normals in my opinion. You can adjust the length of those normal vectors via a slider in the interface.
The painting interface is also great in Yvory. It displays the normal in the point of painting and has a "gizmo":
