Why would they try to pick up a spellbook from neutral ground in the first place? Spellbooks/Specials can only be picked up from claimed ground.
Yes, that's where they keep going. Perhaps to claim, or perhaps to pick up the wizard-corpse that is already gone.

I have no clear reproduction path beyond the save game. Once I've played a few games without running into pathfinding problems I'll consider it fixed.
Please find two saved games attached with pathfinding issues. One shows witches being unable to move. The other shows a tentacle that moves away from the dungeon after a fight...
