Had a similar problem (!!PLACEHOLDER_TO_BE_REPLACED_WITH_CHECKBOX!!). Do you have a space between the square brackets? Try it in "source mode" view.
This problem only occurs with Silent Ambient switches. If you include this spacer right away, you lift up the key unnecessarily. I suspect many people don't like this.
