Keycaps collide with the top of the choc switch
Hi! First, I want to thank you for this great keycap, using the normal variant on my choc daily driver.
I use the silent noctural switches, and the keycap colide a bit with the top of the keycap housing. KLP Lamé are not the only ones, that’s why spacers like these are sold. MoErgo recently announced:
MoErgo has just released version 2 of MBK, and MBK Homing, and MBK Convex 1U that are compatible with the silent Choc v1 switches (such as our Cherry Blossom, Plum Blossom, and LowproKB's Ambient series). There is no need for a spacer.
I modded a bit my SLS nylon KLP Lamé with a bit of cardboard. I just stuck a (about) 2×5mm rectangle between the stems on the keycaps, and I can listen and feel an improvement. It add 0.5mm of height.
But it would be better if this "spacer" was included in the model directly.
Thanks!
This problem only occurs with Silent Ambient switches. If you include this spacer right away, you lift up the key unnecessarily. I suspect many people don't like this.
It can also be done the other way, with a ressess instead of a spacer. That's how the other keycaps are fixing this.
It is touching with all the switches, but it is remarkable only with the silent ones.
This issue happens with all choc switches and not just the silent versions. Kailh spec includes a platform on the bottom of the keycap to space out the keycap from the stem to prevent collisions with the switch's top housing. The issue is that the choc stem actually over-travels below the surface of the top case. A simple 8.6x4mm platform around 0.3mm in height is all that is required to prevent the need to use spacers.

@LOWPROKB could you please share this design file? I'd love to use it for my Ambients Silent Choc Twilights (when they're back in stock)

Rename to .step. Twilights in stock now.
@braindefender any chance the fix can be added to the production files?
I made o-shaped bump of 0.6mm height. That should fix the problem. Needs testing, cause I have no silent choc switches. And effect is less noticeable on my regular ones.
@braindefender I haven't tested it yet myself but why 0.6mm height over @LOWPROKB's 0.3mm?

I would say that 0.3 is the minimum. I think I suggested 0.5mm to FKcaps and ZSA as a safe size.
@braindefender I just ordered the print of v1.4, will report back how it works for ambient switches
