Is this "covariance" from `astropy.uncertainty`?

This request seems to be very specific to a certain instrument and only to spectra. Why can't this be handled exclusively over at specutils again?

Uncertainty is here: https://github.com/astropy/astropy/tree/main/astropy/uncertainty But nddata is something else. I guess I will be less confused if you could open an experimental draft PR as proof-of-concept when you are ready....

BTW astropy 5.3 is very old. Try upgrading. Even so, `astropy.samp` does not really change, so this might still be an issue.

For the WCS, I am not sure if it is possible given that https://github.com/spacetelescope/gwcs/issues/99 is still open, unless @braingram or @WilliamJamieson have ideas.
