I think a more realistic threat would be malicious apps or websites trying to scan for Rayhunter without the user knowing. there, auth can be useful. not sure about TLS

yep exactly. i haven't tested the device extensively to see if downgrading breaks anything -- wifi works, and it boots, that's it
I believe so. Fwiw most sdks don't send binary bodies like that at all because those bodies are hard to strip pii from and in the general case they're not...
