The caveman gameside solution would be to do `/luarules blabla` with whatever data needs saving and a gadget would put that into rules params. Engine events sound good.
IIRC energy reclaim being ignored by the overdrive system is some mix of intended (because it's usually an emergency stalling measure or for things like dedicated earlygame shield/cloak rush shenanigans)...
