Oh, 2.4 crashes if the directory has been removed.
But I did not yet manage to reproduce the crash. Though I discvoered a flaw in `BrowseTableModel` which _may_ cause a crash. Not sure if that is the issue.

@geraldog Very welcome! If you're using this updated patch, could you share your experience? How is overall stability? Does it allow you to lower the buffer size?
