Atom solved this similarly with some [crafty use of Less](https://github.com/atom/atom/pull/8663). We may be able to use the same approach to invert the selection color based on background color.

What shell are you using? I've tried this both with Zsh (my default) and Bash. Other than that, we're both on OS X so we'll need to find other differences...

Curious if there's any harm in just defaulting to `xterm-256color`? I'd like to avoid adding options and settings, if possible, as my goal for this addon is to work out...
