I'd like to see this too. I'll investigate and issue a PR if I get it implemented.

@vhochstein have you tried `"^\\[maven-release-plugin\\].*|^\\[Gradle Release Plugin\\].*"` That should override the default which omits merge commits.

I fixed it, got it to use JetBrains Mono 18.... then it crashed on me like half way into modifying a document. Time to shelve meld for me.
