Our entire backend sync system (tens of thousands of lines of code) and also the N1 project (tens of thousands of lines of code) are all designed around the ideas...
@CyanBalloon Have you tried our newest release, Nylas Mail? We redesigned our threading algorithm in it. Maybe this solves the problem for you?
It properly uses the Message-Id, In-Reply-To, and References headers instead of depending on the subject line.
You can do that if they're not erroneously threaded together. But we still do not have an option to disable threading entirely. (Hence this GH issue still being open.)

Sounds like this is fixed so I'm going to close! We generally recommend setting up your OS's networking configuration to use the desired proxy settings.
