Are you using m3u8-parser directly or via VHS?
fmp4 is supported regardless of the extension name. Though, it's worth noting that HEVC support in browsers is virtually non-existent (aside from safari).
Didn't realize that Edge still supported HEVC. Though, their support is dependent on hardware.
I just tested the new stream on a bunch of MSE based players and unfortunately, none of those players work. Interestingly, most other players refuse to play the stream altogether...

We believe this is fixed as part of https://github.com/videojs/mux.js/pull/336 and is available in the latest mux.js release.
