Ah, it's probably the waterfall. The sfx is so compressed and crunchy it sounded like gravel to me.
Oh yeah, this suggestion was made in mind with the possibility of using the expanded camera angles (and some new ones maybe). Forgot to mention that, my bad.
That's caused by draw distance. It's sorta janky, lot of stuff have LOD issues. https://github.com/emoose/OutRun2006Tweaks/issues/97
There's an official remake now (Unity), but I haven't compared the quality of the TL since I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
OpenLyrics 1.12 doesn't pull up the example in my OP.

Nice, this works. Weird that the normalization feature itself is what triggers it.
The issue seems to be BD's internal library (Zeres), which needs to be updated. Any plugin that relies on it will cause crashes. Nothing you can do but wait for...
