The render getting more saturated is expected from my experience. The render getting darker is indeed weird, it seems to be something specific to how that scene is set up....
I don't think the renders that you have send were done with GMoN enabled. With GMoN, you would see very dramatic darkening after the first sample and then gradual increase...
