Are you in a position where you can try using the https://github.com/perkeep/gphotos-cdp tool directly and see if that works? I have no idea whether it works on Windows though...
Sure I'd be happy to support that. But also, ideally the container does any general-purpose EXIF fixing for everyone rather than requiring you to do anything manual.
To answer your question specifically, though, that functionality does not exist today.
Maybe we monitor the output for changes and if it hangs for more than some period we kill the process?
