If I understand well, this would +/- work if we stored the data on-chain instead of on IPFS, correct? I am not really sure how it increases interoperability with off-chain...

Some old deployments will be pretty impossible to verify since we don't version the deployment output and it's pretty hard to have the exact same hash. We may consider redeploying...
