Is this practically the same as #53616 ?
This was on my radar for some time. Should we not just update the entities' bboxes instead so that `bbox()` returns their actual adjusted bbox?

@nstrahl Thanks for the PR! Can you make sure the code formatting is according to the [QGIS coding standards](https://docs.qgis.org/3.28/en/docs/developers_guide/codingstandards.html)? There's a script named `scripts/prepare_commit.sh` which is meant to be used...
