Yes using test ingame didn't unload the testing model after exiting in some cases, this was fixed in 0.0.12a.
Use the inventory cables, place an inventory proxy between the cable connector and the inventory connector.
Do you have any drawer or barrel like blocks connected to the storage system?
Do you have any drawer like blocks attached? Are you using vanilla chests, or some other modded chests?
What Minecraft version are you using? Are you on Forge or Fabric?

What mod are you using to preview? The terminal uses fake slots, so some mods may not detect it.
1.8.9 doesn't have Optifine shader support, you have to use at least 1.16 to have support for shaders.
