IMHO _CONTAINER_ENGINE_ is better than _DOCKER_BINARY_. Also, we have the option to use _BUILDER_ENGINE_.

The cri-o feature is great, however, on vanilla k8s containerd is the most used, right? Guess the draft PR needs to include a check to ensure the runtime is supported.
