I didn't commit any code, just documenting that its possible to get this working if you make a few edits

Experiencing same - similar issue. Docker login to Gitlab registry works fine, push to same fails, Access Denied. The GitLab side error logs are saying: msg="error authorizing context: authorization token...

Suggest you restart your docker containers.. I hit that error before and restarting the containers cleared it up.
