Yes, descripe the old photo in your prompt and use color photo in your prompt. Then put your old photo in the image2image and use vary (subtle).
Uhm, its still possible to use just fooocus alone to pull off a recoloring of vintage photo's. See results below. I didn't get it to work with image variation (img2img)...
That one was simple, this famous B&W photo is a pain to convert into color because of the complex scene ;-/ 
Like uhm ... maybe better use Photoshop for that image ;-)
