For the record, this was an intentional omission of the API. Supporting named ports adds more complexity for both implementers and users and generally just introduces more ways that things...
@howardjohn there's a lot going on this thread, what are you saying would be "hacky behavior" here?
For future reference, MAP is attempting to get to beta in v1.34 (https://github.com/kubernetes/enhancements/pull/5251). I would love to consider it as an option here, but agree with @youngnick's comments above that...
