A workaround - converting the GIF to MP4 with ffmpeg before the upload. That mostly works as expected.

Issue from 2017 suggests that the delay on the last frame might be ignored: #5646. That indeed seems to be it, and a test shows a GIF working as expected...

So it might be the same root cause, now seeing it also over very stable and fast connections. For example, sometimes uploading two images works on the 8th or 10th...

Indeed, this problem is more obvious on a bad connection. Some automatic retry might help, and perhaps manually-initiated one as well - otherwise one image failing means re-uploading them all...

When a single image is opened, yes. In that context long press does nothing.
