This is something that has been bothering me, too, so thank you for writing it up so nicely. I will discuss with the designers and see what everyone thinks.
In the previous similar issue it was pretty clear that something got weird with the hints, but with this one I don't see anything quite as obvious so far.

Ah, that's right. Similar to https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-han-serif/issues/118.
It's the same mapping as Sans, but Sans doesn't have the hook so we'll need another HK glyph here.
