Status update. I'm grinding along with #996 (see #1030) and am happy to review stuff but that'll be me for this release.

I think it would be nice to deal with #950 and #967 while before `0.18.0` as well.

No this is annoying. I can dig out what I wrote in my thesis and see if that helps.
