No special plugins is needed. The extension is using [D-Bus](https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/DbusHowto).

There are option "Track only highlighted messages for chats" in the extension preferences. With this option enabled (by default) notifications for group chats will appear only for highlighted messages.

Try to set the "Hide new IM conversations" option in the pidgin preferences to "Always".

This extension provides no tray icon. Only GS notifications.

@mwilck Extension provides no icons. Just notifications.

@mwilck There are option "Blink on New Messages" in pidgin systray icon menu. Uncheck it.

Sorry, but i don't get it. To install this extension one can copy all files to share/gnome-shell/extensions/pidgin@muffinmad either in ~/.local/ or /usr/.
