For the record, I'm running Dev Edition and it got an update to 55.0 Beta 1 today. I haven't updated yet, just mentioning it for completeness' sake.

The extension has been abandoned since January: #534 This is a known issue and unlikely to be fixed.

Are you on FF Nightly 56? If so then you're feeling the effects of WebExtensions. If not, then something might be wrong on your end since Tab Groups still works...
