Here it always gives me the Homebrew version, if it exists. Very mysterious.

It will be easier to credit you, if you add the PR. Yes, I'ld only make the change on macOS. We mostly do `if sys.platform == 'darwin':` in other places....
This seems very specific to this one Debian version and if you want a newer package, you could just install from pip?
