i've been testing some filepath stuff on windows and `return std::filesystem::exists(filename);` is a better alternative to the current windows code, as it actually works with special characters in the filepath...

On second thought, I'd like to see this tested on Mac before this is closed, since it was confirmed at least sometimes working on Win10 and Linux.
i use qt creator for c++ development which doesn't have an editor config plugin built in, my bad! i'll correct it tommorow
