+1 to this idea, I also (sorta) maintain my own fork at https://github.com/linuxgemini/acme-dns for more arch support and honestly keeping this great project alive is a must IMHO.

@reneeotten looks like `arm-none-eabi-binutils` fails to build on source-only install mode; created a trac ticket for that at https://trac.macports.org/ticket/65348

The firmware is unified [ever since release 3.0.0](https://github.com/solokeys/solo/releases/tag/3.0.0). So `solo key update` doesn't have mode selectors. And you're right the information on the docs is not updated: https://github.com/solokeys/solo/blob/13c882b5323ff711c88bf1fb4f46f0afb156bdb6/docs/programming.md#L24-L26
