I floated this at dev catch up, agreement was that I need to talk to their PM Astrid to move this forwards.

We are going to handle incidents within the team in future, closing this ticket as it will be resolved as part of #1661.

This is because we use secure cookies to allow same-site: None, so when testing authentication locally you need to use HTTPS (see for instance https://web.dev/how-to-use-local-https).

Is there still a user need for this? I a little curious to know who's doing this...

This is still an issue. I'm curious to know how teams using v6 compatibility mode are managing with this.

Fixing this would be I think, unfortunately, a breaking change, as users' prototypes could change unexpectedly as a result of it.
