My suggestion would be to move to an orchestration tool (ansible, salt, puppet and the like) and just make a good and accessible user interface with sane defaults, rollback option...

No, I don't think so. But can I import through command line? where are the corresponding files? File/Templates are easier to integrate in an orchestrated deployment.
