I think our plan remains to attempt to refactor Leaflet to entirely rely on the [Pointer Events API](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Pointer_events) instead (hopefully before v2). I do believe that would resolve this issue.

Looks like this issue can be closed? I am not sure why it was re-opened.

@simon04 thanks so much for getting this landed, this is a huge chunk of what I wanted to get landed when I started the original class refactor. Amazing!
This one can be closed as it is no longer required to have `tslib` around for modern JavaScript runtimes. It will be removed under #96.
I thought I opened this up on my fork, got some more enhancements coming up so I'll convert this to a draft.
I am closing this PR as it was never my intention to raise it at this early stage. I'll close it until I can come back with a final solution.
 But in all seriousness, great performance optimization 🏎️
