According to [Mark Thomas](https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r013149bb6a6b52bf93e13c1144fed1e344d9e4b0ec5864007c0d0ff6%40%3Cdev.tomcat.apache.org%3E), the change was in 5.5, so I'd suggest to Keep the attribute for Tomcat < 5, but remove it for Tomcat >= 5.
