OK so this bug has been open for well over a year with no dev attention. To hell with this. [Here's a working fork](https://github.com/chrisknepper/android-messages-desktop/issues/260).

Added `sanoid` repo and installed `sanoid`. `zfsnap` installation [instructions](https://github.com/zfsnap/zfsnap/blob/master/INSTALL).

Done. Used `sanoid`.
