It is certainly operating the 3.3V regulator on the ESP board out of specs. This might work fine for a while, then fail suddenly. I would repair the barrel connector...

So the issue here is that the clock generator clock has to be enabled (switched active in the ASIC) at precisely the time when the tear bar is not visible....
It always has a chance to reappear when any kind of sync glitch/disturbance happens. A proper locking mechanism would help fix this as well. It's all about finding a way...
