I have the same issue. Also I discovered that work profile apps don't work anymore and are no more listed in Afwall.

Are there any plans to implement Pingback/TrackBack or are you no more interested in this feature?

Afaik conversations automatically downloads from contacts in your roster if the file size is below a configurable threshold.
