Maybe, but the concern isn't what distros will do with their copy of SDL, it's what Steam's copy of SDL will do on every distro. :)
We removed this MMX code in SDL3, so this can be closed.
What platform is this happening on? Windows? X11? Mac?

Would this be difficult to cherry pick to SDL2? I assume the surrounding code is pretty different.
