It's by design. ImageViewer, TextViewer, Text editor are not "real" providers, they do not create sdr folder when opening a file. sdr folder is the place where the book settings...
I'm confused where "open" means Reader or TextEditor?
I cannot reproduce. Between steps 3 and 4 I must close the TextEditor, right?

Okay, please note that the file will be overwritten by every update. Restore the patched version after update, for some testing period.
