I can confirm it seems possible to pull the data from the switches so this could be added to the script as could the status changes of lights.
Confirmed, editing the config file by hand and changing the comers to spaces and then restarting the service - solves this problem.

Some updates relating to hiding some messages if you want. If there is interest I could add some command line arguments to make it less programmer orientated.
Tested on an old version of macOS with python3 installed via brew. Seems to work okay.
Any issues, feel free to merge in any time. Maybe a file rename would pull this example more in line with the other examples. Guess that can be done later...
